We were recommended by the lady at the Reception to visit the Mines early.

This was because they can only take 25 people a time into the Mines.

We walked around the mines stopping at different locations to hear short video pieces.

We then moved onto the Village, (pictured right is myself standing between Fuel Pumps)

In the old days there used to be someone who would fill up your car for you.

We ended the day on a Canal trip. This went into the Dudley Canal System.

They used to mine for Lime stone by using Dynamite.

I hear you ask why the white hard hat. This is because there is falling water and lime!

It was a really fantastic day and would recommend it to everyone!

Nokia have released their rival touchscreen smart phone the N97 that is expected to rival the iPhone, but is it as really good as all the hype suggests?

Look & Feel

The Nokia N97 measures 117.2 (L) x 55.3 (W) x 15.9mm (D) compared to the iPhone 3G’s / 3G S’s 115.5 (H) x 62.1 (W) x 12.3mm (D); the N97 weighs 150g compared to the iPhone 3G’s 133g and iPhone 3G S’s 135g.

Not really much difference there, the Nokia has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and features a tilting touchscreen, whereas the iPhone is in one, making the iPhone far harder to break.

Screen

The 320 x 480 3:2 ratio screen on both iPhone models is eclipsed by the Nokia N97’s true widescreen (16:9) 640 x 360 pixels. Both measure 3.5 inches diagonally. Nokia definitely wins on this one, as not only will TV/DVD based widescreen movies fill the whole screen, but there’s more resolution.

Could you really type on a keyboard this small???

Camera

Again, the N97 wins hands down on the camera front, offering five megapixels, Carl Zeiss Tessar optics, and a LED flash / video light. Yes, video. The N97 will shoot video at DVD quality (30fps). The iPhone 3G, by comparison, has no video functionality and a paltry 2MP camera with no flash or focus, while the iPhone 3GS bumps that up only a little to a 3MP camera, autofocus, and 30fps VGA video recording.

Multimedia

Both handsets are heavyweights when it comes to consuming multimedia content, with both phones loyal to their companies’ services – the iPhones obviously have access to a huge range of content via the iTunes Store, with all other content having to go via iTunes. The N97 has access to the Nokia Music Store.

Both can play a wide variety of audio formats, but the N97 manages WMA on top of MP3, AAC, eAAC and eAAC+.

Navigation

The iPhones utilise A-GPS and Google Maps, plus any third-party applications which use geo-location data. Additionally, the iPhone 3G S has a built-in digital compass. The iPhone OS 3.0 software upgrade will allow turn-by-turn navigation, but not via Google Maps.

The Nokia N97 has A-GPS and an electronic compass and uses Nokia Maps.

Communication

Both phones have Wireless technology and both accept High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) This means the phone can use High Speed internet on the go.

Web Browsing

The N97 has the ability to view websites in Flash, currently the iPhone 3.G does not allow this

Storage

The iPhone comes in 8, 16 and 32 GB models, which does not have the ability to add too. The N97, however has 32GB build in memory with up to 16GB microSD exapnsion.

Applications

The iPhone has a built in App Store for free and paid for applications. Currently the N97 does not, you have to find them yourself and install them.

Conclusion

As you can see the Nokia N97 wins on alot of factors, but remember the Nokia N97 is still a new phone, Apple iPhone is well established in the market.

Remember currently the iPhone has the “I want one of those factors”, Nokia N97 may be doing hugely well on the features and specifications, but I feel it will not do so well on sales.

Do you own a Nokia N97 or Apple iPhone, does the Nokia N97 beat the iPhone or do you think the iPhone is simply the best??

Apple have announced they sold 5.2 million iPhones in the quarter, seven times more than last year.

“We are currently unable to make enough iPhone 3GSs to meet robust demand, and we’re working to address this,” said Apple’s chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer.

Although there is a demand for the iPhone, Apple have not delayed plans to launch the smart phone in 20 countries in August.

What do you think about this?? Are Apple silly for not realising the demand early enough? or do you think Apple could not have done anything??

Last week Sunday 12 July, I went out to the pub with my family to celebrate my brothers 18th Birthday. I had quite a bit to drink, in the sense that it was quite a cheap night because I’m a light weight. I had 4 Sambucca’s and Coke and 1 Vodka & Coke.

I am motoring on with my Driving, I have now had a go at the maneovers I need to do for my test. In a couple of weeks I am having a final assessment and if all is well I am going to book a test at Ludlow Driving Test Centre.

Last week I started preparations for my 21st Birthday Party in October. I have already arranged the Venue, got invitations printed and got balloons from my friend organised. I am going to book entertainment very shortly.

Today, I have made a minor but massive change to my website, now if you want to comment on my Blog you simply click Connect To Facebook, this will then pop up a window and ask you for your Facebook Credentials. Once successfully logged in, you can post a comment on my blog post, this will then also post your current display picture with your comment. Once posted your comment you will be given the option as to post what you’ve just said on my blog onto your Facebook profile.

Please note: This Facebook service is directly from Facebook and I do not have access to your Facebook Credentials, This move has been implemented to minimise spam posts, of which last week I received 50 spam comments around the usual Viagra and enlargements.

Please do share this Blog with your friends, family and work colleagues.

As you know I’m an iPhone finatic, and this week Apple gave its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Here they launched iPhone OS 3.0 software update and also released a new handset the iPhone 3GS.

iPhone OS Software Update

On Wednesday June 17 2009 iPhone will be releasing the latest software update 3,0. The features in this update are truly what I’ve been waiting for.

MMS – You now have the ability to send picture messages, audio and contact information using Multimedia Messaging Service. If your an O2 pay monthly customer, sending one MMS will use 4 of your text allowance.

Copy & Paste – Can now copy and paste information, giving you the ability to send information without having to type it. Copy & Paste will work by tapping the start of the copy and then tapping again for the finish.

Internet Tethering – This feature allows you to use your iPhone as an internet modem, so if your in the car with your laptop with no wi-fi plug in your iPhone and your away. Tethering will not be free, however the prices are as follows 3GB usage is £14.68 month or if you want 10GB it’s £29.36.

MobileMe – If your a MobileMe customer you will have the ability to logon to your account and find your iPhone. If your worried about the data on your phone you can send a command from your control panal and will wipe your data.

iPhone 3GS

I haven’t done much research for this however, the new features this iPhone will have are: Video recording, better camera and better graphics.

o2, this time are not offering you a free upgrade to iPhone 3GS. Instead you will need to pay to end your contract and then pay any charges for your new iPhone 3GS.

Personally, all the features in the new iPhone are not really beneifical to me and therefore will be staying with my iPhone 3G.

I hope you’ve found my article very interesting and hope to see you soon.
